Mental health and physical safety are a top community concern on the west coast, with sexual assault response becoming an increasing need. While it is an issue across all communities, it is direr among those affected by intergenerational trauma, racism, homophobia, gender discrimination, and housing insecurity.
Clayoquot Biosphere Trust and Westcoast Community Resources Society invite you to gather with local partners including health providers, community services, First Nations, businesses, educators, local advocates, and other related organizations to amplify our efforts.
Attendees will learn about the current education, prevention, and response practices, and explore ways to reduce the frequency and severity of incidents by building on collaborative strengths and supports. The goal is to empower the shift from a culture that facilitates sexual violence through shame and secrecy, to a culture of consent that fosters respect and dignity.
West coast businesses have an important voice in this discussion, and we invite you to join us to empower your leadership and staff with questions and resources to best support a healthy workforce and community.
We will be sending more details about the day in the next few weeks. In the meantime, this is an open invitation event, but please help us anticipate attendance - RSVP to Erika at erika@clayoquotbiosphere.org
If you have questions about sexual assault response on the west coast, or know someone that you think would be important to attend, please contact Jenna at sarp@wccrs.ca.
