Good Night Out Workshop
Join us for an informative and interactive session on preventing and responding to sexual violence in hospitality settings, hosted by Good Night Out.
Date: August 20th
Location: Hotel Zed
Time: 1:00 - 3:00 pm workshop, 3:00 - 3:30 pm Q&A and social time
What is this workshop all about?
This workshop is focused on building your skills in detecting, preventing and responding to issues of sexual harassment and sexualized violence in hospitality spaces. This workshop focuses on risk and tools for staff in all corners of the industry as well as patrons and will also teach valuable bystander intervention skills and ideas for supporting survivors. Participants will leave the session with a solid foundation in creating “protective” spaces.
What can I expect?
The workshop is 2 hours in length and there will be 30 min following for Q and A, discussion and socialization. The session is interactive (but no one is forced to do anything!) and will draw on your experience and ideas. It is a workshop about preventing sexualized violence, which means there are some heavier parts. The hosts teach from a trauma informed perspective and use measures to make the workshop feel as safe as possible.
Who should attend?
We recommend all staff attend. Participants will leave with practical, tangible tools for prevention and response.
Who will be hosting it?
This session will be facilitated by Stacey Forrester (she/her/hers) from Good Night Out Vancouver. Stacey is a former community health nurse and current community and social planner. She works with venues, hospitality stakeholders, performers and other businesses to help them protect their staff and patrons. For the last 10 years, Stacey has managed the Harm Reduction services for BC based music festival, Bass Coast.
