The West Coast Multiplex is a community facility in the making – the dream of many passionate West Coast Vancouver Island parents, kids, sports enthusiasts, health professionals, wellness advocates, senior citizens, educators and business people from eight communities.

The WCM will serve multi-generational families interested in improving health and wellness through a variety of recreational and educational activities. With renewed regional support, recent donations and an approved cost funding referendum, the WCM is closer than ever to becoming a reality.

The proposed project consists of the construction of a multiplex facility located on Tofino Airport Lands adjacent to the Long Beach Unit of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. These lands are located within the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht.

The initial phase of the project will feature a full-size ice surface suitable for hockey. The facility will function as the regional gathering place. It will be the largest indoor public facility on the outer West Coast. More than an ice arena, the building will offer regional opportunities for many non ice related activities. In addition to a variety of recreational activities the building will accommodate special events such as concerts, trade shows, celebrations and festivals. Given its’ location it could also function as an emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster. This will be a community facility for all eight communities to work, play and live together!
