About Us

Visit Henry Nolla’s Carving Shed on North Chesterman Beach, the legendary home of late master carver Henry Nolla. Henry was the principal carver of the architectural details of the Wickaninnish Inn. He was a teacher & mentor to many of Tofino’s finest carvers; he carved the welcome sign on the Village Green, the Eagle Aerie Gallery’s entrance and totems, and the woodwork found at Common Loaf Bakery. Henry’s Carving Shed has been a Tofino landmark for over 30 years and remains a local carving hub.

Wander off Chesterman Beach into the Carving Shed today, and you may find Feather George Yearsley working on an elegant eagle feather made from reclaimed wood, or classically trained Christen Dokk Smith bringing his larger locally inspired pieces to life. Though it boasts no regular hours, a carver is onsite most days, and happy to welcome you in to spin a tale reminiscent of past times on the coast.
